      Tavia Gilbert is an ideal narrator for Frost's steamy, engrossing stories, and she brings her usual wit and emotion to this second Night Prince novel. Though they've survived hell together, Leila can feel her vampire lover, Vlad, growing more distant by the day, and her psychic powers seem to be fading as well. Striking out on her own again seems like the best way to overcome her breaking heart, until a ruthless killer threatens to shatter any hope of happiness. Though Vlad's accent occasionally sounds too harsh, Gilbert's consistency with the characters and their unique traits is admirable, and the emotional depth in her delivery brings all the nuances of these stirring figures to life. Realizing she can never be truly happy in the inadequate relationship, Leila leaves. Returning to the circus community she formerly called home, Leila barely survives a firebomb that kills her best friend.
